Policy-Based Group Membership
Overview
Policy-based group membership allows you to automatically assign users to groups based on defined rules.
Instead of manually adding users, Fixiam evaluates your policy and ensures the right users are placed in the right groups.
When to Use This
Use this feature when:
- Users should be grouped based on attributes (e.g. department, role)
- You want to reduce manual group management
- You need consistent and scalable access control
How It Works
- You create a membership policy
- You define conditions (e.g. department = “Finance”)
- You assign the policy to a group
- Fixiam automatically adds matching users to the group
Create a Membership Policy
- Go to Group Management
- Select Groups
- Click Membership Policy
This opens the page where all policies are managed.
- Click Create Policy
A new page will appear.
- Define the policy:
- Set the conditions (e.g. department, role, or other attributes)
- Specify how users should be evaluated
-
Assign the policy to a group
-
Click Save
What Happens Next
- Users who meet the policy conditions are automatically added to the group
- If a user’s attributes change:
- Group membership updates automatically
Example
- Policy: Department = “Engineering”
- Result: All users in Engineering are added to the Engineering group automatically
Important Notes
- Policies rely on accurate user attributes
- Users who do not meet the conditions will not be added
- Changes in user data will trigger re-evaluation
Troubleshooting
User is not added to group
- Check if the user meets the policy conditions
- Ensure required attributes are filled
User is incorrectly assigned
- Review the policy rules
- Confirm attribute values are correct
Summary
Policy-based group membership helps you:
- Automate user grouping
- Reduce manual effort
- Maintain consistent access control
